Cannons Baseball Q and A

- How do I register my young player for youth baseball?

Feel free to approach a Cannons coach or player parent and introduce yourself as an interested parent. Visit our website www.cannonbaseball.org for detailed information. Write us an e-mail at coach@cannonbaseball.org.

- What equipment does my child need to play baseball?

Cannons baseball players are required to wear safe clothing. We suggest at a minimum a baseball hat, t-shirt (short or long sleeve), appropriate eyewear, baseball pants that protect the skin, a baseball glove, a protective batting helmet, and a bat. However, if you are unable to gather these things please feel free to contact the Cannon for assistance.

- When does the youth baseball season start and end?

Cannons baseball players practice from winter until spring and throughout the baseball season. Seasons in the Midwest begin based on age groups with younger teams getting outside as soon as the weather is good, and older teams starting later in the summer after their high school seasons have been completed.

- How are teams formed in youth baseball?

The Cannons have teams at various age groups already established. Ask about available teams for your players’ age group. And if enough players in an age group can join the Cannons all at once, a new team may be created.

- What are the age divisions in youth baseball?

Typically, from ages “8 and under” (8U) all the way up through age “18 and under” (18U).

- How often are practices and games held?

Practices and games are held multiple days per week based on your ball club.

- Can a player play high school baseball and practice with the Cannons at the same time during the High School Baseball season?

No. Michigan High School Athletic Association rules are designed to protect young players’ health and bodies. Cannons Baseball respects and complies with these rules.

- Who coaches the youth baseball teams?

Cannons teams are coached by experienced ladies and gentlemen.

- What is the cost to participate in youth baseball?

Costs can be broken down into two primary subjects. 1)  personal player gear and 2) team fees covering training, practice facilities, tournaments, field fees, and more. Contact a Cannons Manager or Coach for more information.

- Down Payments and Refunds

Cannons baseball team Managers use your downpayments funding to make tournament reservations and pay other required pre-season bills. Seasonal down payments cannot be refunded. They are a demonstration of your commitment to team.

- Are there any volunteer opportunities for parents?

Yes. The Cannons have formed a Task Force of volunteer parents and guardians to support our organizational needs such as fields maintenance, etcetera. Volunteer work can include landscaping, field maintenance, trash processing, practice and game support, and more. Contact your team Head Coach or Manager to volunteer.

- How can I find out about rainouts or cancellations?

Rain outs and cancellations will be communicated to parents directly from their Team’s coaching staff.

- What safety measures are in place during practices and games?

Cannons managers and coaches maintain all health and safety measures.

- How are disputes or concerns between parents handled?

Each team's manager or head coach is in charge of parent and player behavior.

- Are there any opportunities for advanced training or camps?

Yes. The Cannons provide our local community with a yearly baseball camp. And each team's coaches choose extra professional baseball training for their teams.

- What is the policy on playing time for players?

Your coach will handle fair playing time policies.

- How can I support my child's development in baseball at home?

Youth baseball skills and IQ are learned through observation and practice. Watch professional baseball with your children, do your best to answer questions. Hit, run, and catch when possible. And always reach out to your manager and coaches for help.
