Cannons Fields Press Release

January 11th, 2019 – COMMERCE TWP, MI

Public and Private Sector partnership for the good of the community: School System and Local Non Profit baseball organization team up for multiple baseball fields to be “reclaimed” and improved The Commerce Cannons Baseball Organization is proud to announce an agreement with the Huron Valley School District to reclaim and renovate 5 baseball fields. The Cannons will take over and renovate 5 fields located at Country Oaks Elementary School and Oak Valley Middle School.

The schools are located next to each other and all 5 fields are in various stages of use. Bruce Soderberg, executive member of the Cannons had this to say: “The school district has been very supportive of our organization and very helpful through the early stages of this partnership.” Construction on the renovation of the fields has already begun with volunteers cutting back the infields and removing debris. Shannon Loso, Director of recreation & community education with Huron Valley Schools commented: “These fields have been under utilized for a number of years.

The Cannons coming in to reclaim these fields is a long term benefit for the school district.” Founder of the Cannons, David Fiedor, had this perspective: “This is a win / win for both our organization and the school district. The Cannons get a home location and the school district gets an immediate upgrade to their grounds”. The Cannons plan on supporting up to 9 teams this upcoming 2019 season. This is remarkable growth from an organization who started with just a single team in 2016. At least 3 of the 5 fields will be ready to be played on in 2019. When asked if there was anything the Cannons needed from the community, Fiedor responded with: “Absolutely.

We look at this as a community project to reclaim these fields. As such, we are looking for a number of things from local residents and business owners: 1. Volunteer hours – there are a number of various manual labor items we could use help with. 2. Corporate sponsors – we are looking to raise significant funds for fencing, covered dugouts, and irrigation. 3. Equipment: Zero turn mower, golf cart, industrial equipment boxes, and more. 4. Continued support – we’ve already received emails, text messages, prayers, and letters about the work we are doing – keep the support coming.” If you are able to donate or you would like more info on the Cannons, you can contact:
